the birds

remember these guys? they've undergone a stunning transformation with the help of some stuffing and stick-on googly eyes.

to save them from being grounded, my coworker kel (yep, i said coworker) built this magical mobile and they now spend their days happily in faux-flight in the front window of fibre space. you (yes you!) can make your own bird mobile with some scrap yarn and the (free!) flock pattern from knitty.

probably a good time to share that i've gone from dreaming of one day working in a local yarn store, to actually working in one. the business of this chickadee has slowed down a bit as more time squishing yarn and stocking shelves means less time in front of the sewing machine. but never fear, this chickadee will be here...and there...so if you stop in fibre space be sure to say hi. and keep an eye out for chickadee activities around town too.

on the auction block

the chickadee contribution to the fiercegrrl fund auction is up! take a minute to check it out and then leave a comment with your bid. all proceeds from the auctions (and direct donations) go to nicole puzan, a local crafter and activist, to support her expenses as she undergoes surgery and chemo to combat ovarian cancer.

fierce for nicole

many thanks to oh meaghan for setting up the fiercegrrl fund and running the auctions!

also, thanks to the pattern designer, kristen hanley cardozo, for her support of this project. you can find a link to purchase and download this pattern (clothilde) and many other beautiful knits on her blog, knitting kninja.

three little birds

three little birdie bags complete this caribbean commission. they share the same color story as the larger tote but they differ in shape and size. these bags measure 11" x 13". they are reversible with a plain side playing up the pretty bird fabric and slip pockets lining both walls of the contrasting side.

i want candy!

thank you to jennifer over at the daily candy for featuring some chickadee creations in her latest feature: 18 green designs for the ecofriendly home!

wedding belles

here's a special order from a special bride-to-be. jessie is getting ready to fly down to aruba! to say 'i do.' and she'll be packing several chickadee creations in her suitcase to give as gifts to her wedding party. the colors of the bags were chosen to match the invitations.

this first tote measures 13" x 17" and can hold all sorts of essentials for the beach and beyond. there are three slip pockets and two small pencil pockets on the outside of the bag. the interior boasts an inset zipper and another row of slip pockets facing. plenty of stowage for a seaside retreat! and there is an attached key ring too. hopefully it will make itself useful on the trip and serve as a pleasant reminder of the happy times had upon the return home.

in other cheery news from the land of cherry blossoms, please clap hands together for rebecca! she won herself two tickets to the sugarloaf craft show this weekend (and she faced some pretty stiff competition). a crafter herself, she blogs about "politics, pop culture...and episodes of squirrel-induced rage" as mean louise. check it out!

konichiwa!

cherry blossoms, just beginning to bloom (tokyo, japan)

spring, eastern hokkaido style (lake mashū. teshikaga, japan)

a heartfelt "domo arigato gozimasu" to japan and all of the wonderful friends who welcomed us there. it was an amazing experience...a trip filled to the brim with spectacular sights, delicious dishes and an abundance of amity. thanks to those who opened their hearts and homes and treated strangers like an extension of their own family. and speaking of family, thanks to my brother for functioning as tireless tourguide and social director. your next shitake sando is on me. sugoi desu!
