hot fun in the summertime

crafty bastards 2008
(silver spring edition) is in the books ladies and gentlemen. saturday's showcase was a spectacular event for vendors and shoppers alike. the turnout was tremendous especially considering the soaring temperatures and sticky, sweaty ambiance. visitors to the fair were entertained and amused by the assemblage of artists and musicians, and saved from heat stroke by the wonderful water ice people. as vendors, we were well taken care of by city paper staff members and volunteers who did everything from helping us haul our wares in and out to taking trips around to make sure we were staying hydrated. for dandelion blu and i, it was fun and fulfilling, as many people stopped in to wish us well and encourage our efforts.

thanks to everyone who showed up and showed their support, especially to family and friends who made the day even more special with their presence. thank you washington city paper and pyramid atlantic people for all of your hard work behind the scenes and hands on help during the day. kim and sara, you are the champs of the craft show scene and your professionalism and personal touch made the day a great success. and finally, to our overworked and completely unpaid canopy staff...kelly and eric, we couldn't have done it without you. you are the wind beneath our wings and the hands that hold down the tent when the wind gets other ideas.

it's the final countdown

this chickadee is back from bavaria, stuffed with sauerkraut and steins of bier...slowly making the transition back to eastern standard time. there truly is no rest for the wicked as crafty bastards looms large and prep time dwindles down to precious hours. you can bet that dandelion blu and i are making the most of the time remaining to ensure that we bring a super circus to town on saturday. she promises to have lots of new work to share, including these pretty new pieces:

you are probably anxious with anticipation of the big event on saturday. perhaps a little light reading to help you pass the time? if you are curious to learn more about what makes this chickadee chirp, click on over to the interview on the crafty bastards blog.

we are auf!

the hills are alive with the sound of chickadees! yours truly and mein mann are auf to the alps to beat the heat, binge on bier and enjoy the edelweiss. we'll pack in some fun before returning a frantic few days before crafty bastards on june 28th! don't forget to check out their blog for product previews and show updates. and please don't forget to come on out to silver spring that saturday for the food, the bands, the handmade goodies and the fun.

in related news, school's out for summer! school's out FOREVER for my friend and frequent booth-mate, the lovely and amazing dandelion blu. she quit her day job and is now officially a full-time crafter. help support her as she makes her big break by stopping by her blog and shopping around in her etsy store. if you are in the vicinity of brooklyn, ny this weekend you can see her and her gorgeous kiln-fired enamel pieces in person at the renegade craft fair (saturday and sunday).

and you can continue to see new things from this chickadee right here! although i have no intentions of being anywhere near a computer for a while, i'll be taking advantage of blogger's new publishing function and putting together some posts to be put up at a later date. next week we'll be presenting the new quilted placemat and coaster collection in a format much like this week's double fantasy debut. new pics should appear daily of these darling new decor items. each placemat measures 12 1/2" x 17" and is stuffed with fluff to cushion and complement your flatware and favorite dishes. the coasters are a 4 1/2" square spot to comfort and care for your choice of beverage. their cush comes from a layer of eco-friendly cotton batting. to tie things together, each set also has its very own velcro coozie. hope you love the new additions to this chickadee's line-up as much as they love you!

time to pack it up and pack it in. tschuss meine freunde! bis spater!
